about

This song makes me happy and sad at the same time. It's about being at the beginning of love and knowing that it won't feel like the beginning forever. This is a concept that was very difficult for me to accept during my younger years, and still challenges me more than I care to admit.

My first inspiration for the chorus of this song was remembering an inspirational poster from middle school: "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land among the stars" I actually thought it was depressing because all I could imagine was floating around in space after missing a target, being impossibly far from anything graspable.

lyrics

We shoot for the stars
Land in the dark
Fly like arrows
With no account for the arc
Aim a little high
Strike a little low
The target you're seeing
Is somewhere else by now, you know

So now that you've chased me
Into this deep of a blue
You might as well take me
The rest of the way with you

Cause I could get use to it
I could get used to this thinning air
I could get use to it
I could get used to this sky we share
We may not get very far

But here we are and it's alright
At least there's honey on the moon

We shoot for the stars
Land in the dark
Fly like arrows
With no account for the arc
Aim a little high
Strike a little low
The target you're seeing
Is somewhere else by now, you know

We're more than a maybe
We're less than an always true
We shy away lately
In layers of lassitude
But the path you were chasing
Held promise of something new
The distance was hazy
But you were a morning view

I could get use to
I could get use to your waking eyes
I could get use to it
I could get to this waking life
I could get use to
I could get use to your waking eyes
I could get use to it
I could get to this waking life
We may not get very far

But here we are and it's alright
At least there's honey on the moon

A name is a container. I covet the remainder. All of below. Part of above. I tell my story with temperance and love, lullabying along. It'll all make sense in context, I show myself in song.
