about

In a way, this song is a sister to Ballad for Ballard, in that it was also inspired by a trip to the state of Washington, though this was a different instance, around different people. Some friends and I were staying in a cabin, very away from the city; a chance to connect to nature. I had brought raspberries with me and at some point they constrasted with a memory I had: a lover of mine had always called me a greyberry when my outfits were lacking color. This moment was a question.. was I being a greyberry when maybe I needed to invite more color into my life? We can always add more color to our lives. It's a miracle that we're here.

lyrics

The vine is alive why are you so grey?
Amen I say to you
You do not thirst for lack of water
There is still plenty in the spring
Reach with all your might for
Whatever in that memory was real
It's trying to save you
It's trying to save you
It's trying

Oh my god the raspberries are breathing
Oh my god so am I
Oh my god the raspberries are breathing
Oh my god so am I

You couldn't see the moments in the moments
Couldn't see the stories in the creases
Couldn't see the vitamins in the valleys
Unfold your hands
Unfold the fabric
See them trying to save you
They're trying to save you
They're trying

Oh my god the raspberries are breathing
Oh my god so am I
Hold that thought, the smallest things have meaning
Reminding us we're alive
Oh my god you're alive
Oh my god so am I

A name is a container. I covet the remainder. All of below. Part of above. I tell my story with temperance and love, lullabying along. It'll all make sense in context, I show myself in song.
